Mindfulness in Education: Learning from a School-based Mindfulness Intervention through the Mindful Science Centre
Emotional Intelligence based Mindfulness practices have been promoted as a promising way to reduce stress and anxiety in students and improve their academic and behavioral outcomes.
Mindful Science Centre have carefully designed a self reported mindfulness program that correlates significantly with better academic achievement and behavioral outcomes. The Mindfulness Program encouraged school based mindfulness intervention that improve students’ sustained attention, their self-control, better sleep and diminished stress to increased focus on learning.
Background and Research
Over the past decade, training in mindfulness the intentional cultivation of moment-by-moment non-judgmental focused attention and awareness—has spread from its initial western applications in medicine to other fields, including education.
Research on the neurobiology of mindfulness in suggests that sustained mindfulness practice can enhance attentional and emotional self-regulation and promote flexibility, pointing toward significant potential benefits for both teachers and students.
Early research on mindfulness based training initiatives suggest that training in mindfulness skills can increase sense of well-being and self-efficacy, as well as their ability to manage classroom behavior and establish and maintain supportive relationships with students.
Mindful Science research program have collectively demonstrated a range of cognitive, social, and psychological benefits to students. These include improvements in working memory, attention, academic skills, social skills, emotional regulation, and self-esteem, as well as self-reported improvements in mood and decreases in anxiety, stress, and fatigue.
Mindful Science Centre is working on more rigorous research program for collection of scientific data on the benefits of mindfulness-based interventions in education

Mindfulness practices help students focus and pay attention. A few minutes of mindfulness practice can improve the learning environment. Many teachers report that on the days when students practice mindfulness, the students are calmer and the class accomplishes more than on days when mindfulness is not practiced.
